The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer – University of Cape Town

Required at Lecturer level:

  • A Masters’ Degree in Public Health or Social Sciences (including Organisational, Policy and Development Studies), or Humanities
  • At least 1-2 years independent, teaching experience, including experience of student supervision
  • At least 1-2 years of research experience relevant to health policy and systems research in South Africa or other low- and middle-income country

Required at Senior Lecturer level:

  • A PhD in Public Health or Social Sciences (including Organisational, Policy and Development Studies), or Humanities
  • At least 3 years independent, post-graduate teaching experience, including experience of student supervision and mentoring
  • At least 3 years of research experience relevant to health policy and systems research in South Africa or other lowand middle-Income country
  • Evidence of a track record of peer-reviewed publications

The following would be advantageous at senior lecturer level

  • Experience as a collaborator or co-investigator on research grants
  • Experience of review/editing of written outputs

Required at both levels:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in research and teaching teams, including demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work on multiple activities at one time and meet deadlines while producing high quality work
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Advanced computer literacy

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating modules within the PG Diploma Health Leadership and MPH (health systems track)
  • Participation in the teaching of postgraduate Diploma and Masters modules – including facilitating sessions, compilation of relevant reading materials; development of case study materials where appropriate; setting, preparing marking criteria and marking assignments; setting, preparing marking criteria and marking examinations;
  • Supervision of Masters students’ minor dissertation projects
  • Active participation in existing research projects, entailing for example literature review, methodological development, data collection and analysis activities
  • Support for the development of new research activities within the Divisional portfolio, including proposal writing and budget management
  • Working collaboratively with other staff within the Health Policy and Systems Division
  • Support for wider collaboration within the School of Public Health, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and University more generally, on Health Policy and Systems issues and activities
  • Wider engagement with health system actors as relevant to the HPS Division’s broader programme of research work
  • Engagement and collaboration with national and international research partners

At lecturer level: Between R601 928 and R 805385

At senior lecturer level: Between R672 110 and R968 905
