Supervisor Environmental – Sibanye Stillwater

The appointee should:

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant certificate in Environmental Management
  • Sufficient relevant experience
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Gold Occupational Health Centre.

  • Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism: Air Quality Guidelines.

  • National Road Traffic Act,1996 (Act No 93 of 1996);

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of project management and aspects of the project life cycle

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the action plans and initiatives determined by the Environmental Superintendent are executed.
  • Conducting / participating in area and site inspections.
  • Environmental Occurrences (incident, non-conformances, complaints) identification, reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Logging quality incidents, non-conformances, and complaints (aligned with policy) on PIVOT.
  • Communicating and reporting of incidents; environmental incident, substandard conditions/acts reporting to Superintendent.
  • Engage with the operational team (Engineering etc) to develop action plans required to close out the incidents / non-conformances / complaints
  • Proactive environmental incident management including tracking, managing, reporting and closing out of the incidents.
  • Contributing to the development of the Environmental Management System and associated Policies and Procedures.
  • Comprehensive reporting and communication to the Environmental Unit Manager / Superintendent Environment.
  • Participating in onsite training and development.
  • Facilitate, support, participate in environmental awareness campaigns at operations.
  • Acting for other Environmental Officers / Environmental Assistants when on leave or not available.
  • Familiarize yourself with the area, historical environmental risks and challenges, increased focus on environmental issues at OPERATIONAL Level.
  • Conduct visitor and site visits / audits and inspections in area of responsibility.
  • Attend key meetings to address and pick up on environmental issues.
  • Develop strong relationships with the operations to work together as a team.
  • Coordinate environmental emergency response drills where appropriate.
  • Update incidents / non-conformances / complaints to the PIVOT incident management systems with support of operational owners
  • Support in customising procedures to be site specific
  • Act on instructions and obtain data eg waste data
  • Liaison with data sources and capturing data in appropriate data management system where appropriate.
  • Track and maintain improvement initiatives and plans.
  • Monitoring of environmental performance (water quality, dust, waste) – trends over time
  • Generate and write reports
  • Review of internal and external audit reports and external third part studies / deliverables to ensure outcomes and findings are not onerous to Sibanye-Stillwater.
  • Discuss monthly environmental talk topics and articles / environmental awareness
  • Communication of environmental objectives and targets at shop floor level.
  • Work with Environmental Specialists.
