Purpose of Job

The purpose of this job is to ensure and provide applicable Environmental, Hygiene, Emergency Management and Transport Safety (inbound logistics) sub-functional systems, procedure, practices and toolkits to achieve SHE excellence and related outcomes within the framework of the elements of One Sasol SHE Excellence approach.  Enable and optimise the sustainable execution of related SHE practices by providing fit for purpose governance, assurance, compliance and disclosure on reporting requirements. Liaise with hosting functions with a specific focus on health and regulatory enablement. To implement and maintain a Management System conforming to the Green Star building requirements. This should be done in collaboration with relevant parties to ensure alignment and integration with existing ISO 14001 systems and audits. Coordinate building hygiene surveys to ensure conformance to requirements. Implement and maintain systems to ensure compliance to by-law requirement with regards to Emergency Management for Sasol Place. Facilitate compliance with transport safety requirements pertaining to Inbound Logistic operations. SHE results are monitored, reported, reviewed, audited and disclosed to assess SHE excellence, enabling various levels of assurance and identify improvement opportunities. Provide and share specialist knowledge and expertise with all customers of SBU products both externally and internally

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Hygiene:

  • Identify conditions in the workplace that may cause illness or adverse health effects to persons
  • Assess occupational health risks due to identified hazards as it relates to ergonomics, health, noise, indoor air quality.
  • Coordinate and manage appointment of service providers to conduct Occupational Hygiene surveys and audit compliance to standards and report to the relevant authorities.
  • Evaluate the identified risks and recommend control measures to mitigate such risks
  • Review relevant mandatory codes of practices and policies
  • Compile and implement an occupational hygiene programme
  • Interpret group strategies, guidelines and standards into systems and procedures
  • Interpret and implement legislative requirements.
  • Ensure compliance to all risk management standards and leading practices
  • Recommend and advise business on implementation of corrective actions on deviations identified during the surveys

 

Environmental Health:

 

  • Assess environmental risks posed by business activities. Requires knowledge related to biodiversity, water, waste and air quality (both scientific and legal knowledge is advantageous).
  • Interpret group strategies, guidelines and standards into systems and procedures
  • Support incident investigations.
  • Provide guidelines for clean-up and assess effectiveness of clean-up activities, specifically also as it relates to transport incidents.
  • Guide the implementation of the Green Star system for Sasol Place

 

Legal assurance

    • Engage with Legal and provide input and support in compiling legal landscape documents.
    • Participate in the SHE Legal Compliance Forum
    • Assist team to assess and interpret new legal requirements.
    • Evaluate the identified risks and recommend control measures to mitigate risks introduced by new legislation, regulations and standards for the group (SHE & Security).
    • Populate the Implex tool with legal controls for all SHE and Security legislation to provide management with a trackable legal assurance measurement index.

Emergency Management

  • Write, edit and proofread risk management related documents and procedures.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of procedures and monitoring programs.
  • Arrange and lead emergency exercises according to legal requirements.
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders (including government) to ensure organisational objectives are achieved.

Product Transportation

 

    • Understand inbound value chain and logistic terms and conditions (Incoterms) to determine boundaries of SHE accountabilities and responsibility at various stages of transportation.
    • Liaise with Inbound Logistic team responsible for managing the contracts related to Management Agents to understand the SHE related contractual requirements and determine compliance in terms of contracts, procedures and legislation.
    • Liaise with contract management teams to ensure SHE related aspects are included in SLA discussion forums and that communication as per contractual requirements are adhered to.
    • Liaise with stakeholders, including product stewardship at the various Sasol sites regarding transport requirements.
    • Have knowledge of legislation, group strategies, guidelines, standards, procedures and bow-ties as it pertains to transport of goods (specifically dangerous goods).
    • Develop a strategy to determine compliance with contractual and legal requirements which could include SHE audits, SQAS audits, contractual audits (based on outcomes of site wide initiatives).
    • Assist and Support incident investigations
    • Risk management and bow-ties related to Inbound Logistics

 

Digitisation:

Building Office 365 solutions for the team including PowerApps, Power Automate and Power BI:

    • Create Power BI Desktop reports and Power BI Services dashboards based on business requirements.
    • Identify appropriate data sources and adjust as required for optimal use with Power BI and other tools – innovative use of data sources and technology.
    • Design, develop and support application development in PowerApps. For example, develop application that allows Occupation Safety team to upload field data and photos directly to Sharepoint (without the need to purchase any additional software or licenses).
    • Support integration of existing visualisations and reports with new systems that might be introduced in future.
    • Investigate data issues when reports or applications fail.
    • Redefine and make technical/strategic changes to enhance existing Business Intelligence systems and engage with technical teams on complex changes or integration with other systems.
    • Support and conduct end user training, when required on both PowerApps and PowerBI tools.
