Snr Specialist Environmental Licensing – Sasol

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The role is responsible for the development and implementation of a management system to secure environmental licenses related to EIAs, air, water, waste for all Projects and Engineering projects from initiation to execution. The role will ensure the application of legislative requirements throughput the project life cycle and provide assurance. The role is expected to manage and co-ordinate projects and consultants across different geographical areas.

 

 

FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS

Adopt One Sasol SHE Excellence Approach and provide specialist input relevant to specific portfolio services.

Contribute to the formulation of environmental tactical objectives in accordance with vision, values, and business direction of Sasol Group.

Implement Sasol’s risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.

Support the identification of environmental risks through proper environmental assessments and coordination of studies and investigation activities.

Provide specialist input into obtaining and amending relevant environmental licenses/permits/authorisations

Maintain a link with Sasol Group Function to ensure alignment and source advanced legal input and guidance

Provide comments and input on draft legislation

Manage and maintain relationships with authorities at local, provincial and national level

Report identified risks and advise risk owners on appropriate mitigation measures for risks’ management, in accordance with Sasol governance structures.

Compile and submit business reports monthly/quarterly/annually to the relevant governance structures and corporate SHE to assure effectiveness of SHE risks management.

Implement and maintain portfolio specific reporting systems (e.g. data, audit results, incidents).

Act upon findings from inspections, audits, and assessments to develop and implement environmental improvement plans aligned with One SHE Excellence game plan.

Handle the communication channels of the environmental function effectively and guarantee proper communication of developed solutions to the concerned entities.

Influence business decisions to promote sustainable activities and enhance environmental and social performance.

Advise on and support Sasol’s initiatives to reduce environmental footprint and enhance environmental and social performance.

Enable legal compliance and risk management associated with shortest processing times (SPT) operations through a well-established monitoring system.

Apply evidence-based SHE practices, in alignment with set standards, to ensure safe operations.

Contribute to the formulation of workforce planning reports and budgets to optimize staffing and operations.

Sustain team’s high performance and seek opportunities for individual and collective growth monitored through structured performance contracts and tailored development plans.

Establish and sustain effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and the community to pave the way for future partnerships.

Participate in environmental forums, natural working teams, and other groups to discuss latest trends in environmental management practices and share Sasol’s approach to build reputation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:
Relevant Post Graduate or Honors Degree

8+ relevant years
