Mineral Resources Technician: Underground – Sibanye Stillwater

The appointee should:

  • Have NQF 4 (National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate for Adults) with Mathematics and Science
  • Have a Elementary Evaluation Certificate
  • Have At least 2 years’ experience in a related role
  • Be able to use MS Office i.e MS Excel
  • Have sound analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Be stress tolerant
  • Have Judgemental skillls
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Stillwater Occupational Health Centre

Advantageous requirements:

  • Have a Advanced Geology Certificate
  • Have a valid driver’s license

Key responsibilities:

  • Carries out sampling according to plan, reports results identify deviations and recommends corrective action by highlighting devations and areas of non-compliance and adhering to policies, standards and procedures.
  • Plans and schedules resources needed to meet own work output plans as well as the necessary logistics to ensure the achievement of targets i.e pro-active planning of team deployment, materials and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate administration, record keeping, reporting, control, and reconciliation systems in line with department’s requirements through the contribution of Survey activities e.g Survey records, input to metal accounting, progress reports, measurements) interpretation of Survey data for production units improves mining compliance and standards and to enhance the detection of reporting deviations from plan to metal accounting issues.
  • Attends and participates in meetings by providing required information based on acquired knowledge and experience.
  • Keeps abreast of latest relevant Mineral Resource developments, innovations and technologies by means of liaising with other sources and by attending meetings on a regular basis.
  • Performs any other activities necessary for the effective completion of his / her work including: Field Book, Software Transfer and Sample Sheets.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally i.e Production Unit Managers and personnel; Departmental Heads (Engineering, Rock Engineering, Ventilation) Other Mineral
  • Resources Mnaagement (Evaluation, Geology, Mine Planning)
  • Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensures that costs are controlled, and wastage of resources is eliminated by working within prescribed budgets. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
  • Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organizational development plan.  This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment.

  • Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks.
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures
  • Quality Management System (QMS):
  • Comply with requirements of the Quality management System
  • Report any deviant practices and behaviour observed underground
  • Use Stop Look and Assess and Manage (SLAM) principle before conducting tasks.
  • Ensure that 95% sampling coverage is attained monthly.
  • Generate no-value reports for every underground visit and send to all stakeholders before the end of the same shift of the visit.
  • Conduct quality control (MCF) audits when underground.
  • Generate sample sheets for all workplaces sampled.
  • Communicate all findings from underground visit.
  • Improve our position on global industry cost curve
  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff
  • Manage performance and development of reporting staff
  • Ensure fair work allocation for team members
  • Inspire team members towards high performance
