Civil Engineer – Sasol

Purpose of Job

A Civil Engineer II will utilise authoritative levels of experience in civil engineering to manage and/or execute the design, engineering, development and modification of complex and/or specialized civil systems in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements. Ensure that total asset life cycle management is considered at various stages of design and/or operation of assets.


Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Business Results:

Coach and guide junior team members, providing technical direction to several smaller projects

Have broad based engineering knowledge and competence in particular relating to design and construction of civil or structural assets

Apply knowledge in defined fields of civil engineering (e.g. Quality control, problem solving, deep excavations, piling, large foundations, geotechnical investigations)

Formulate and execute the civil engineering scope and works information for large multidisciplinary projects

Provide detail knowledge of Sasol specifications, standards and SANS specifications and standards.

Know best practices and be able to ensure/maintain compliance adherence

Utilise Civil engineering systems, tools and standards in all projects

Create, develop and update civil engineering systems, tools and standards

Provide input concerning best practices, lessons learnt and training to Engineering

Give input to identified specifications and procedures

Provide input to project execution strategies including contracting and selection of suppliers

Contribute to the development and management of the project execution plan with respect to Civil engineering including own subordinates.

Review and optimise Civil execution plan

Coach, mentor and guide less experienced engineers

Participate in stage gate reviews

Ensure compliance with legal and safety requirements

Ensure quality control of delivered services by means of ETQP and Hold/review plans

Identify deviations to guidelines and standards with corrective timeline

Ensure project success by adherence to cost, schedule and quality targets for own project scope

Formal Education

University Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering


Min Experience

5+ relevant years


Certification & Professional Membership

ECSA Registered Professional Engineer (strong preference)
